NEXT SOFM - September 21, 2009

'SOFM' stands for School of Frontier Missions

This school is focused on training two types of Missionaries :

1. Frontier/Frontline Missionaries, who are living and working among specific groups or clusters of people without an own independent or indigenous church. The Philippine SOFM is training career Missionaries for Reaching Animist, Buddhist and Muslim people in Indochina, Indonesia and the Philippines. They should be dedicated to plant churches among these people groups.

2. Mobilizers These people are dedicated to promote Frontier Missions even at home and recruit Missionaries for Unreached people groups.

In short, we train, mobilize and send Missionaries to Unreached People groups or people sharing a common culture and language but have no church of their own. The goal is not to plant churches reflecting our own culture, but their culture and way of worship.

If that sounds too challenging for you, don't worry: God is using and preparing ordinary people for extraordinary tasks. If this kind of training will be helpful to empower you for your specific call, you may pray if an SOFM may be the right 'next step' for you.

YWAM Frontier Missions Values

YWAM Frontier Missions, as an integral part of YWAM International, fully affirms our larger mission's values. We have also developed a list of Frontier Missions values, which specifically address and guide our contribution to the wider mission movement.

1. Completion of the Great Commission
We value the evangelization and discipleship of all peoples with a focus on the "unreached peoples".

2. Church Planting Movements
We value church planting movements as an essential strategy in reaching unreached peoples.

3. Holistic Transformation
We value holistic transformation of people and their communities through both proclaiming the Good News and demonstrating the Kingdom of God.

4. Cultural Relevance
We value each human culture and language and the treasures each brings into the Kingdom of God. Therefore we plant churches that are Biblically based and culturally relevant to their members.

5. Mobilizing All Peoples
We value the participation of the Church within every people group in evangelizing and discipling all peoples.

6. Strategic Partnership
We value partnering with the diverse family of ministries within YWAM and the Church internationally, working toward our common vision.
